Our world is full of people who don’t understand that their chronic digestive issues, sleep issues, anxiety, autoimmune issues, etc., are tied to much more than their diet, exercise regimen, or the supplements they do or don’t take. It’s all connected to the nervous system, which essentially acts as a record of the past. When we experience trauma, it becomes stored in the body, and until we heal it, we continue to suffer. While we may not consciously remember our traumas, our nervous system does!
Sadly, many people don’t know or understand the importance of healing trauma or even how to do it, so they end up spending their lives wrestling with a long list of chronic health issues stemming from an issue they don’t realize they have—focusing on symptoms and searching for answers in all the wrong places.
Common signs that trauma is being stored in the body:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Overwhelm
- Autoimmunity
- Chronic Pain & Headaches
- Digestive & Gut Issues
- Fatigue
- Weight Loss Resistance
- Skin Issues
- Chronic Inflammation
- Hypervigilance
- Insomnia
- Eczema & Other Skin Issues
And instead of healing the root—their trauma—they focus on trying to ‘fix’ their symptoms, which not only doesn’t work but also worsens them. Stored trauma is like an ‘alarm’ in the body, and when we hyper-focus on symptoms, we perpetuate the cycle of fear and fixation, adding to the alarm in the body and unintentionally making symptoms worse. To truly heal, one must address the cause (dysregulated nervous system), not just the symptoms.
The language of the nervous system is nonverbal, which is why talk therapy and simply thinking positively aren’t sufficient for healing it. To truly heal the nervous system, you must show it that it’s safe and that it’s okay to turn off the “alarm system. This involves creating experiences that communicate safety to the body on a fundamental level, allowing the nervous system to relax and restore its proper function.
One of the most effective ways to show the nervous system that you are safe and to heal unresolved trauma is through somatics. This is because somatic practices engage the body directly, bypassing the mind and working with the nervous system’s nonverbal language. By tuning into physical sensations and body awareness, somatics helps release stored tension and trauma, signaling safety to heal the nervous system and facilitating deep healing.
Your symptoms will not resolve until you address the root cause- whether it’s stored trauma, stored alarm, or nervous system dysregulation-it’s all the same. I’m telling you this so you understand why what you’ve tried in the past hasn’t worked, but it can perpetuate the body’s sense of threat. When we live in a state of constantly “fixing,” it sends constant, inadvertent danger signals, reinforcing the idea that we’re not safe as we are. This perpetuates the dysregulation, trapping many in a loop that can last for years or even a lifetime.
Almost every chronic health issue on the planet is either caused by nervous system dysregulation (stored trauma) or made worse by it.
In my inner circle, we’re in the middle of a nervous system healing series that has been absolutely life-changing. This month, we’re focusing on healing unresolved trauma, which *is* the missing piece in so many people’s healing journeys.
I struggled for so long, and I know exactly what it’s like to try everything, spend an insane amount of money—and still not heal! That’s why I’ve made this invaluable information available to my community for just $25/month. You won’t find value like this anywhere else. This is the knowledge that finally allowed me to heal, and I’m confident it will lead you to the same healing.
This month, @healwithbritt, an esteemed trauma and nervous system healing expert, will be leading a workshop on how to heal unresolved trauma using somatics—one of the most effective therapies for restoring nervous system function.
