Once I realized this, I became obsessed with understanding how the nervous system works and what it truly needs to heal. Through my journey, I discovered the practices that had the most profound impact on restoring balance and healing. 1. Switching from a Fixing Mindset to a Healing Mindset
One of the most important shifts in my journey was moving from a “fixing” mindset to a “healing” mindset. In our culture, we’re often conditioned to view ourselves as broken when we experience physical or emotional pain. We think we need to “fix” the problem, solve it, or eradicate it. But healing isn’t about fixing something that’s broken. It’s about accepting yourself as you are—imperfect but whole—and allowing yourself to grow through challenges. When you stop seeing yourself as broken, you open the door to a deeper, more sustainable healing process. A healing mindset fosters patience, self-compassion, and the belief that you can transform your life, no matter what has happened in the past. This shift is fundamental because, without it, true healing can’t take place. You cannot heal if you are constantly in a state of resistance, trying to fight against yourself.

2. Learning How to Process Repressed Emotions
Unprocessed emotions are one of the most significant contributors to nervous system dysregulation. When we experience pain, trauma, or stress, we often suppress or repress our emotions as a way of coping. Every breath you take either moves your body toward fight-or-flight mode or towards a healing, parasympathetic state. In today’s fast-paced world, many of us have learned poor breathing habits that only exacerbate stress and anxiety. Shallow, rapid breathing can keep you stuck in fight-or-flight, preventing your body from entering a restorative state. By mastering proper breathing techniques, you activate the vagus nerve, the body’s largest nerve, which helps shift your nervous system back into a balanced state. Slow, deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation, digestion, and healing.
