It is a scientifically proven fact that when the liver becomes burdened, it significantly slows down metabolism.
Did you know that as you age, your metabolism doesn’t actually slow down? Studies show that metabolic rate stays the same from age 20-60. It can drop off after 60 if muscle mass decreases. Contrary to the common misconception that metabolism slows with age, it adjusts to factors like changes in muscle mass rather than a simple slowdown. Instead, it adjusts to your body becoming more toxic, inflamed, and stressed.
It’s true. This is the reason why children don’t struggle as much with weight loss as adults do.
Our liver plays a crucial role in regulating our metabolic rate. When the liver is overloaded with toxins, it slows down metabolism.
Toxins are also stored in fat tissue, and losing this fat is not as simple as “burning it”. The bond between the stored toxin and the fat tissue needs to be broken for both to be shed.
This is a widely misunderstood concept that can be truly life-changing. Detoxifying the liver and breaking the bond between toxins and fat allows fat to be released more easily, leading to an increase in metabolism.
A sluggish liver is the root cause of a sluggish metabolism.
Toxins are unavoidable. They’re in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat – and some of us are exposed to more than others!
If you want to boost your metabolic rate, one of the most effective things you can do is detoxify your liver! I still remember the first time I did a liver detox. Without changing anything else, I lost 6 pounds in a week and felt significantly less bloated and inflamed.
I also maintained this weight loss because it wasn’t water weight; it was inflammation and fat my body was shedding!
Liver detoxification it not something you do once, its something you do to maintain good metabolic health. I do a liver detox 3-4 time a year for optimal health and prevention. That said, the first time you do one, you literally feel brand new, it’s like hitting the reset button! You will immediately feel more energy, less bloated, less inflamed, you’ll sleep better, and experience less hormone related symptoms.
Ladies, this reminds me: hormones are metabolized and excreted by the liver. If you’re experiencing hormonal issues, your liver needs help. In fact, supporting liver detoxification is considered one of the most effective strategies for preventing female and hormone-related cancers, and cancers in general. This is because cancer can arise when the body accumulates excessive toxicity.
Many of us, including myself, will be starting off January with an incredible functional medicine liver detox. The one I’ve used for years. We’ll be pairing this with my emotional detox, learning how to process emotions. Shedding physical toxins and emotional toxins has been unbelievably transformative in my own life, and it will be in yours too!
