It pains me to see witness so many overcomplicate their healing—something I struggled with for a long time. Looking back, the more complex, detailed, and analytical my healing regimen became, the worse my health got. I know some of you can relate.
This is partly why this happens: Many practitioners specializing in areas like gut health, hormone health, and nutrition often claim that their specific approach is what healed them. They genuinely believe in the effectiveness of their methods. However, what’s most interesting is this: When we (they) stop searching for answers in diets, detoxes, or specific methods—believing (they) we’ve found the solution, like a particular diet—the body receives the signal that it’s safe and symptoms resolve. The reason people believe a specific diet or method healed them is that when they stopped searching and started believing in something, their fear and focus on their health issues diminished. This reduction in fear, hyper fixation, and desperation allowed their bodies to move out of survival and feel safe, which helped calm their nervous system and improved their symptoms—not necessarily because of the diet change itself, but because of the sense of safety that came with it.
Very few understand this and that when we address the root of most health issues—a lack of safety—the body can heal. It wasn’t the diet itself, but many don’t realize this and genuinely believe it was. As a result, they become “health influencers,” promoting their way of eating as a cure for others. Then, they create Instagram health accounts like The Paleo Mom, Gut Health Girl, or Autoimmune Warrior, touting their cures and attracting others who believe that a change in diet is THE solution.
The reality is that while healthy eating is important, addressing the root causes of chronic health issues—such as stress and nervous system dysregulation—is crucial. Without tackling these underlying issues, symptoms will likely shift from one problem to another. No amount of healthy eating alone will resolve these fundamental concerns.
I witness this daily—well-intentioned health experts unknowingly trapping themselves and others by overlooking the core issue. It’s disheartening to see that because they believe healing requires strict rules and conditions, they continue to struggle with their health. Even if their specific approach to eating or hormone healing alleviates some symptoms—often by creating a sense of safety—they may still grapple with other chronic issues. By overcomplicating, analyzing, and perfecting their methods, they often create a situation where the quest for a cure becomes more limiting and stressful than the symptoms they’re trying to avoid.
How about you? Has your search for a cure turned into a restrictive and endless list of things you cannot do, and things you must do to heal? How does it feel? Exhausting? Overwhelming? Stressful? If so, I encourage you to release the prison you’ve created for yourself. Soften your grip, let go of the overanalyzing, overcomplicating, and perfecting.
Understand this: your body cannot heal in a state where your nervous system is not thriving. Healing doesn’t need to be complicated, and true healing isn’t found in a diet, protocol, or supplement. When we focus on the foundation of health—the nervous system, which regulates all systems in the body—we can be amazed at how effectively our bodies can heal. You don’t need a perfect diet to achieve freedom and healing. Let go of rigid health regimens and allow yourself to heal without fear, constant analysis, or overcomplicating your body’s natural ability to return to balance.
