The Importance of Creating Safety for Nervous System Healing

When it comes to healing, there is nothing more important than a healthy nervous system, as it controls every other system in the body! 

What does this mean? 

It means you cannot balance your hormones with a dysregulated nervous system. It means you cannot heal your gut with a dysregulated nervous system. It means you cannot overcome your anxiety or depression with a dysregulated nervous system. It means you cannot overcome chronic health challenges when the nervous system isn’t functioning properly because when the nervous system isn’t working properly, the entire body isn’t working properly! 

When it comes to healing the body, healing the nervous system boils down to the fact that the body doesn’t feel safe and, for many reasons, is stuck in a state of perceived threat or danger. So, to heal the nervous system, we have to learn how to stop the messages of danger from being sent and replace them with messages of SAFETY! 

In my experience, the most powerful practice on the planet for creating more safety in my nervous system is learning how to turn toward what I’ve been avoiding the most—and feeling what I’ve been avoiding most. Anything we avoid is going to send a danger signal to the nervous system, but anything that we move toward is going to teach our nervous system that it’s safe! It has been my experience that the most powerful safety signal we can send is to learn how to feel painful emotions and scary sensations in our bodies. 

When we consciously or unconsciously turn away from these sensations, it perpetuates further threat physiology which creates more avoidance, and this snowballs. This is essentially what anxiety is: alarm in the body which triggers fear and avoidance and creates more alarm. That is anxiety in a nutshell! 

So, the way that we create more safety is by learning how to turn toward our emotions and uncomfortable sensations in the body, like the ones we experience with anxiety! I personally overcame anxiety that I had struggled with for years in about a week using these practices! 

Learning how to send your body safety signals is extremely powerful, and I’ve seen this work help people overcome everything from chronic back pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, chronic mold, gut issues, insomnia, anxiety, depression, histamine issues, food sensitivities, chronic fatigue, hormone imbalance, autoimmune disorders, cancer, and more!
