How Trying to Lower Stress Amplifies It

I’m going to share one of the most important things I’ve ever said, and I highly recommend you pay close attention because if you understand this, it will transform your life for the better—forever!!!  

Your body does not reflect who you are TRYING to be. It reflects who you ARE being. 

So, if you want your body to be well, you’re going to have to start BEING well. Somebody who is well does not spend their entire life trying to lower stress or get out of fight or flight. 

Again, your body is reflecting the person you are being right now, today. If the person you were being today is stressed out and overwhelmed and wanting to change that, I totally understand and have been there. However, the only way out is through. 

The way out is to move TOWARD the stress, toward the overwhelm, to allow it to just be because trying to make it go away is causing so much more resistance and stress. Remember, what we resist persists! 

Consider this: How does a person think who is well? What emotions do they experience? What behaviors do they partake in? How do they spend their day? How do they speak to themselves? 

If you want your body to heal, you will have to start BEING WHOLE—this is what signals the healing, not trying to heal. And, this has nothing to do with faking it either… it’s actually quite the opposite. 

Trying, striving, gripping, and controlling are the cause of most of our suffering. Trying creates resistance. Trying creates ‘dis-ease’—and trying is exactly what your body will reflect (someone who is unwell/desperately trying to heal). 

In fact, trying to lower stress is just avoidance and resistance in fancy clothes—stop trying! Move toward the stress and choose to BE WITH IT and BE WELL ANYWAYS and watch how your stress dissolves… 

I know this can be confusing because stress doesn’t feel good to us and it’s a fact that stress is the cause of nervous system dysregulation (the root of most chronic sickness)—but it is never about creating a stress-free life. It is about learning how to process the stress and deal with it so that it doesn’t show up in your body. And this has nothing to do with eliminating it or spending your days trying to “lower it”. 

Trying so hard to heal and lower stress is part of what keeps so many unwell. I lived this for years. And once I realized this, my entire life changed, and this is when my healing really began. 

Healing is moving out of avoidance and resistance into the ability to ‘feel’ and ‘be with’. Healing is feeling; in fact, healing cannot happen without it.
