Simple Nervous System Calming Tips

Many people are starting to focus on improving the health of their nervous system, understanding that healing any chronic health issues is nearly impossible without it.  Unfortunately, most are approaching their healing journey with the exact same approach that made them sick, which is why so many give up and never find healing. 

You cannot bring the same sense of stress, inconsistency, and urgency into your healing (the same approach that made you unwell) and think you’re going to get a different result. I get it, we live in an urgency, instant gratification, and very stressed-out culture. And it’s a huge part of why so many are unwell and struggling to get well. I also know that all nervous systems heal with CONSISTENCY and in SLOWNESS. 

What’s the opposite of consistency and slowness? Inconsistency and a life that’s moving too quickly – A life that has caused you to be overstimulated, depleted, and dysregulated. 

Sound familiar?  

Healing the nervous system is not something you do for a couple of weeks, check it off your list and move on. It’s the way you live, the way you think, the way you feel, the way you eat, the way you move, the way you breathe — it’s a way of life. 

It is your lifestyle that has made you unwell and it is your lifestyle that needs to change for you to be well. 

Here’s a list of ways to calm the nervous system and practice on a regular basis: 

  • Long and slow exhales 
  • Splash cold water on your face 
  • Nature walks 
  • Warm baths 
  • Funny movie 
  • Listening to Music that makes you sing and dance 
  • Taking the day off of your phone 
  • Avoiding multitasking 
  • More hugs 
  • Gentle stretching 
  • Journal about what’s hard while offering yourself compassion 
  • Being bored more often 
  • Fitting less into the day 

Start incorporating these nervous system calming tips into your day. Do them consistently and watch how your nervous system starts to build more capacity and begins to heal. Keep in mind too, these improvements will happen quickly if done consistently, which will provide you with the fuel you will need to continue on your healing journey… ✨ 

Slow and consistent is the key. ❤️
